Promoting volunteering for disabled people |
posted 13 Dec 2011 back to News |
A big ‘Thank you’ for the groups involved in our recent networking event.
Volunteer Ipswich has been working in partnership with Activities Unlimited in the last two months to promote volunteering for disabled people. This partnership work has included:
1) analysing the responses of a survey to organisations (whom Volunteer Ipswich currently supports to gain new volunteers) enabling ‘mapping’ which organisations currently have disabled volunteers and in what roles, and identifying practical barriers and solutions to disabled people volunteering and
2) facilitating and leading on a networking event for organisations on the 5th December 2011 to discuss the issues surrounding disabled people volunteering along with wider issues regarding volunteer management in general.
Kirk Jackson – Volunteer Support and Development Officer at Volunteer Ipswich says “thank you to all those organisations whom responded to the questionnaire and/or attended our networking event – we found from the analysis that there are some very inspirational examples of good practice from organisations’s regarding supporting disabled people to volunteer - and that organisations continue to wish to share and discuss the good practice. This bodes well for 2012 in which organisations are going to continue to need volunteers to fulfill crucial roles within their services”
The team of Karen, Steph and Kirk at Volunteer Ipswich wishes all the organisations and volunteers whom we have supported and whom have helped us, a very happy holiday period and looks forward to working in partnership with them in 2012.
Volunteer Ipswich promotes and develops volunteering in the Ipswich and district area and up until 31st March 2012, in the east side of the Suffolk Coastal area as well. In general, we offer information and advice about volunteering in response to enquiries from individuals, voluntary organisations, community groups, statutory agencies, social enterprises and private-sector organisations and respond to requests for volunteer help from these individuals and groups.
So, if you would like to volunteer or need volunteers then please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Karen Osborne or our Volunteer Support and Development Officer, Kirk Jackson.
